A company that has issued securities through an initial public offering (“IPO”) and is traded on at least one public exchange (such as the New York Stock Exchange). A company is also considered “public” under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 if it exceeds one of the following thresholds: companies with assets greater than $10 million and a class of equity securities held by 200 or more persons; or companies with 500 or more persons who are not accredited investors.
