Property taxes

Taxes that are paid yearly on real property. Property taxes are ad valorem, based on the assessed value of the real property. To prevent homeowners and other borrowers from failing to pay property taxes, lenders commonly “escrow” taxes (and insurance) by collecting a percentage of the taxes owed and holding the accumulated sums into the taxes are due.
