The amount which an individual taxpayer is entitled to deduct from gross income, unless the taxpayer itemizes deductions, to determine taxable income. For 2019, it is $12,200 for an individual, $18,350 for heads of households and $24,400 for married couples filing jointly. Additional standard deductions are available for taxpayers over 65.
